Try the easy way to learn to read music!

When learning to read music, flashcards are an expensive option, and students are prone to cheat. I know.  I used to say to myself "I knew that", but didn't really.

This program randomly presents the 21 notes of the C Major scale on the treble and bass clefs, and play a sample of the note, as pictured below.

Press the name of the note on the keyboard, or click the mouse on one of the buttons provided. If you press the wrong button, the program displays the correct name. You must then press the correct button. To aid learning, you can also press the space bar to give up and display the name of the note.

After all 21 notes have been presented, the program displays the amount of time it took and the number of incorrect answers. Get to know all 21 in under a minute to improve your sight reading abilities! Get to the top of the high scores list to impress your friends and family.

You can also select the instrument, and play along with your computer. Instruments supported are the Piano, Violin, Flute, Trumpet, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, French Horn, Piccolo, Recorder, Cello, Trombone, Tuba, Tenor Saxophone, Bassoon, Oboe, Guitar and Bass Guitar, as well as Choral voice. The system will play a second and a half sample of the selected instrument, and transpose into the native key of the instrument.
