Support the Technobotts3! We do.
The Technobotts are at it again in 2009-2010! After their successful trip to Atlanta last year, they've changed their focus, and are now planning to enter the Robocup Junior Soccer competition. The challenge is to produce two autonomous football playing robots, which compete against another team.
The Technobotts were donated two robots by the John Lewis partnership, and the team will be demonstrating on Friday October 30th and Saturday October 31st in the Grand Arcade in Cambridge. Why not come along and see them?
Get your own Lego Mindstorms NXT
We were always impressed with the range of things you could build with the old Lego Mindstorms robots, but the newest version looks even more exciting. The John Lewis partnership was one of our sponsors last year on the way to the World Championships, so where better to order it from than John Lewis?

History:
In 2007, the local Technobotts team entered the First Lego League Robot competition, and made it all the way to the world finals in Atlanta Georgia. They were beaten by a team that won the local heat in 2008, who went on to win the UK finals, and advanced to Atlanta.
That didn't stop the Technobotts though; they decided to enter the RoboCup Jr competition in the UK. They entered both the dance competiton, where the boys built robots they danced with in a performance of Ghostbusters, as well as entering the rescue mission where they had to build a line following robot.
Their robot won the secondary school rescue mission, and they competed at the UK 2008 RoboCup Jr finals, and qualified to represent the UK in China! Unfortunatley, due to financial constraints they were unable to participate in that event, but hope to compete this year in the World finals in Austria, which is much nearer to home.
This year's competition began on November 29 at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, just outside of Cambridge. They're also showing some of what they do at the Bottisham Library, on Saturday 22 November 2008 from 10:30 until 12:00.
Update 1 - November 29
On November 29th, the Technobotts placed second overall in the tournament with the Director's cup being awarded to the Eco Ambers Team. Both teams advance to the National Finals at Loughborough University.
Update 2 - January 24
Today, the Technobotts competed at Loughborough University in the FLL UK finals.
Their robot performance runs started out in fantastic form, achieving 395 on the
first run of the day, followed by a second perfect score of 400, almost guaranteeing
them a place in the quarter finals.
The technical judging round and the project judging round also went without a hitch.
The Technobotts met the Eco Ambers Team they lost to at Duxford in in the finals, and this time, their luck held out and they put in a combined two run score of 720 out of 800.
In the end, the Technobotts were awarded the Directors Award, and advance to the
World Finals!
Update 3 - April 18
Technobotts win Innovative Design Trophy!
TechnoBotts3 came 4th out of 84 robots in robot performance at the FLL world festival in Atlanta, so narrowly missed a trophy. (there were trophies for first, second and third, won by Brazil, Singapore and China respectively- only four teams achieved a 400 point perfect run.,
