When you click on a test, all words, pronunciations, and contexts for that test are also displayed. The next sections describe all of the actions you may want to perform on a test.

Selecting and Creating Tests

Select the Group

The first task is to select the group you wish to see the tests for. Do this by navigating the tree of groups.

As you navigate through the groups, any tests defined for that group will be shown in the list at the bottom left of the window.

Editing the Words in a Test

Selecting the Speech Engine

Push the button at the top right to select the speech engine to use. It is also possible to use a foreign language engine, to prounounce words of a language other than English, if you have installed one. However, in the the current version, the agent will continue to speak the other words in English. The selected speech engine will be used for every word in the test.

Adding New Words

To add a word, select the last word in the list, and then press the Next Word button. Then type in the new word, then press Enter or the Next Word button and the word will be added to the list. If you want to hear how it sounds, press the Say It button near the word.

Mispronounced Words

Occasionally the pronunciation will not be acceptable. In this case, type in a spelling that sounds like the word in the box labelled "Say it Like". Then press the Say It button near this box to hear the word.

Give some context

Some homophones need context to describe the words. In this case, it may be desirable to include a sentence for the student. You can do this by typing a sentence using the word to spell into the box labelled "Used in a sentence". You can also preview the sentence by pressing the "Say It" button.

If the word list contains two homophones, you may want to tick the Always use in a sentence box.

Editing existing words

To edit a word, simply click on the item in the list of words, and change any entries as required, then click the next word button to save changes.

Deleting words

To delete a word, click on it in the list of words, and press the Delete button on the keyboard.

Reporting Results

You can direct the results of a test to an email address. To specify the address enter it in the "Email Results To" box. A separate email address can be used for each group.

For full details, see the email format reference page of the help file.

Checking the Spelling

To make it easier to spell check the words of the test, you can select Copy from the program's edit menu. Then paste the words into Word, or another word processor, so you can verify that you've typed them correctly.
