Network Installation

When you install, choose a location on your disk that you are willing to share on the network. The directory will need to be writable for administrators and readable for students. You may need to contact your systems administrator to set this up.

Once you have decided on a suitable location, continue the installation.

You will then be asked to choose the installation directory

Press the Browse button, and the following prompt will be displayed:

Type the name of the directory you want to install into in the box at the top of the screen, and press OK. In the picture above, you can see the program will install into a directory named c:\netspell

After following the remaining prompts on-screen, the program will have created a shortcut on the common desktop for students to use, and a shortcut to the teacher's setup program on the desktop you have logged into.

Directory Permissions

The next step is to set up your directory permissions correctly. On a Windows 95/98/ME file server, choose share level access, and use a blank read-only password, and a write password that only teachers know. This will prevent students from deleting the data files.

To do this, right click on the directory, and choose properties. Then click the sharing tab, and set it up as in the picture below.

Installing on workstations

After you have set up the directory permissions, on each of the machines for the students to use, browse to the newly shared directory on the network, and double click the program netsetup.exe This will install a shortcut to the administrator section of the on the current desktop, and a shortcut to the student program drill program on the common desktop so it will be available for all users of the PC.
